Three Immersions, Inc. strives to deliver perceptual, social, and emotional immersions in three dimensional virtual worlds (3DVW). We have extensive experience in Second Life (both Main Grid and Teen Grid), OpenSim, and Unity3D-based virtual worlds. We are also expanding to Blue Mars. We provide VW design service to commercial and educational clients who are searching for 3DVW enterprise solutions.
Design Philosophy
Based on our experience from prior and ongoing projects for enterprises and educational institutions, we know that a smooth, engaging, and immersive user experience in 3D virtual worlds requires more than just good-looking 3D objects. Our unique strength is in designing, developing, delivering, operating, and maintaining not only perceptual immersion via beautiful, realistic 3D environments and rich content, but also social and emotional immersions through engaging in-world interactivities, active events, and strong community building that are native to the host virtual worlds. In addition, we are experienced in enterprise integration of virtual world solutions and know how to turn 3DVWs into an effective component of existing IT infrastructure by customizing both the server and the client viewer software of the 3DVW platforms, which in many cases is one of the most important factors contributing to the success of an enterprise 3DVW project.
Two-Stage Design Process
Three Immersions, Inc. provides 3DVW solutions to enterprise clients in a two-desing design process.
First, we consult with a client to evaluate all available 3DVW platforms, identify the most appropriate platform in the context of a specific project, and produce a detailed proposal with blueprints so that all stakeholders in the client's organization have something concrete and visual to discuss and comment on.
Second, we implement the proposed 3DVW solution based on the approved blueprints using the industry-leading Scrum development process, in which representatives from the client's organiztaion are closely involved, sometimes as product owners in the team if they can commit necessary time and attention to be a team member.
This two-stage design process ensures that the user community in the client's organization has ample opportunity
to provide input at various stages of the project, which not only helps improve
usability, but also facilitates project adoption once it is deployed.
The list of showcase projects accomplished by Three Immersions is a testimony of the success of this two-stage design process.
3DVW Platforms
Second Life is an immersive 3D virtual world with a strong social aspect. Second Life is best known for its vibrant in-world economy and active resident groups. Second Life is divided into the Main Grid for those 18 and over, and the Teen Grid for those between 13 and 18. There are also independent, isolated Second Life grids for institutional use.
OpenSim, an open-source initiative, aims to be compatible with Second Life and has expanded to a number of autonomous grids.
Unity3D is a relatively new game engine. Virtual Worlds built in Unity3D are accessible from web browsers and are ideal for casual visitors.
Blue Mars is a 3DVW built on top of the powerful CryEngine. It is highly appealing in terms of graphics. Its social aspect is not as rich as Second Life yet but is catching up.
